Question by Typo: No insurance = impounded cars?
From what I have been told, the city of El Paso has passed a law that states that when you are in an auto accident if your car has no insurance, the car is automatically impounded. Plus they are looking at expanding the law so that if you are stopped for any reason and you have no insurance your car is impounded on the spot.
What do you think about this? A local talk radio station had an online poll and 81% of respondents supported it. What about you?

Then the people that use trust funds in place of insurance are going to find their vehicles impounded even though they have set aside the minimum amounts necessary to cover such actions by law.

I love it. Illegal immigrants drive around with no license or insurance causing wrecks/damage and deaths.

it sucks i had been ticketed several times for no insurance and have learned my lesson, i had never had my car towed but may have started to carry insurance if it were towed the first time.
same thing with expired registration in most areas.
the idea is the car needs to be insured to be on the road so you must prove insurance to get the car out.
i do support it but insurance can be so expensive for some, being under 18, a sports car, having a ticket or two, a young adult with a dui would have a real hard time, i was at an agent and overheard an estimate for a teen of 350.00 per month, ouch!
at on time i saw stats that 1 out of 4 cars on the road were uninsured, sounds scary considering that most will be in some kind of accident.i saw a story about canada has state run insurance and they make the roads as safe as possible to limit accidents, maintence, traffic control and so on.

Sounds like a great idea. If you don’t have insurance, the car isn’t supposed to be on the road. By impounding it,that will end that situation.
