Question by maximom56: Is it legal to take the plates off an impounded car and turn them in as the insurance has lapsed?
Car ran out of gas .. driver had to walk a distance to get it and police found car with a few minor problems and although it was off the road had it towed as a storm was coming and then im pounded it.. Car is old and need to take off road. can I just go get the plates and turn them in, as insurance will be canceled soon, without having to contact police?Will pay for towing but cant right away.

I don`t see why not. Same thing happened to my car and I just went to the towing place and demanded to retrieve some personal items. I got my things and just never went back to get the car!

yeah go get your plates so you don’t have to pay the dmv or they could suspend your license. just tell the impound lot to junk it even better give them the title.
