Are we talking about the commercials advertising sale of foreclosed homes and impounded cars at public auction? Those commercials are for real. The problem is it’s an auction — the homes and cars go to the highest bidder, so you never know what it’s going to cost you.

The commercials mislead you. Houses sell for about what they are worth. If a house can be bought for $ 1,000 then it is worth about $ 1,000.

Maybe you only need a house with half a roof, or that used to be a drug lab, or that floods on a regular basis, or that is directly next door to the prison that your state executes criminals. Maybe you don’t care if the person that used to own the house has the right to reclaim the property for the next three years by just paying you the amount you paid at auction.

If you want to waste your time and money go ahead with this, but check those houses out very carefully.
